There are four Spanish Jackstock breeds: Andalusian, Maltese, Catalonian and Majorca.
The Andalusian measures from 14.2 to 15 hands high, and the principle color is grey, but they
may tend to be white or roan, with black and blue colors rare. It has well-shaped legs and large
firm bone, and also a good head with a Roman nose, muscular neck and long ears. It has a quietdisposition. The Maltese is probably of Arabian origin, and jacks are usually smaller than those of
other breeds, from under 14 hands to rarely 14 1/2 hands high. Having a well-shaped head and
ears, a good body, great vitality, and vigor at breeding season, it comes in brown, black and
grulla. Jacks tend to have very fierce disposition, and are sometimes hard to handle. Maltese
were the breed brought to the New World.
