Kid's Korner

December 1997

happyhar.JPG - 26,361 Bytes Meet the NWBHC mascot. He is showing himself for the first time, but look for him in future issues as he helps some of our younger members, and those who are forever young, learn more about horses. This month it is a fun page of puzzles, recipes and fun facts.

What is his/her name? Got a good idea? Send your ideas to Melissa Clegg... Entries must be in by Jan. 20, 1998. We will tell you his name and the winner in the Feb. issue. The winner will get a prize out of the prize bag. So kids of all ages -- get creative!

Can you recognize these Chrismas Carols?

Candy Cane Horses

Materials: Red or Green Felt
Candy Canes
Ribbon for reins
Good scissors of Pinking Shears
Plastic eyes from a craft shop
Craft Glue

For each candy cane horse, cut 2 pieces of felt in the shape of an elbow. Then cut two ear shaped pieces for the ears in the same color felt as the elbows. Glue the long edges together leaving the ends open to insert the candy cane. Attach the eyes and ears, glue the ribbon reins on, and when the glue is dry, insert the candy cane and hang on the tree.

Optional: Cut short length of yearn and glue on the back edge of your felt for mane.
