Dione and Tethys
- These two moons, as well as Rhea, are probably the most "typical" moons of Saturn.
- They are bright, covered with ice, and heavily cratered.
- The only remarkable features are:
- Patchy areas of darker tone.
- Scattered swaths of bright material, seemingly draped across the craters, like a thin veil of dust.
- Dark regions probably regions of soil concentration.
- Bright swaths may be frost deposit
- Cause of the brigter and darker areas is really not understood.
- Geologically, old impact craters dominate the landscape.
- Fractures have created a few sizable canyons
- They are less heated and less modified by internally generated geologic forces than larger worlds.
